Been a While, Huh?

How ashamed of me would you be if I told you I've only read two books since I officially went on hiatus in September? I hope not too much because I am already judging myself - hard.

Since that time, I've kind of replaced the obsessive reading/blogging with knitting and crocheting. I know - crazy, right?! I taught myself to do both once I quit my part-time job and realized that if I didn't find a "productive" hobby, I'd be sitting at home every single night after getting home from my day job and watching 5 hours of Netflix and having nothing to show for it.

I reached this major slump in reading - I just couldn't find anything that I really wanted to read. I am still dealing with this issue somewhat, but I'm at least reading again. I went weeks without picking up a book - WEEKS!! Everyone who knows me was shocked to hear that. Hell, it still shocks me when I say it out loud.

I read Legend by Marie Lu after I went on hiatus which I enjoyed but didn't love. Then I started Jellicoe Road by Melina Marchetta which took me ages to read because it's a very intense and involved book, and ya know, slump and all. But I finally finished it, and it was amazing and I'm slowly getting back into a reading groove. I honestly can't see myself reading two books a week anymore because I really love this needlework hobby I've picked up, plus I'm really engrossed in a few Netflix shows (One Tree Hill, Heartland, Vampire Diaries [which I'm just re-watching], etc.). But I'd really like to get back into the bookish blogosphere.

I feel like I have no idea what is going on these days, what books have released lately or what's being released soon. I think you can expect to see more of me once I can catch up on all the reviews I never wrote, but maybe you can help me out? What have I missed? What are some of your most anticipated released for the end of the year and the beginning of 2015? What really great debuts should I read that came out in the last couple of months? I mean, Christmas is coming and I need to submit my book requests soon. Can't wait to hear from all of you and to check out everything I've been missing out on thanks to Netflix and yarn.

  1. I've thought about you a lot! But I'm glad you took a needed break and can re-evaluate what is doable for you from this point on. Crocheting is way fun! I used to crochet blankets that I gave way to charities for babies all the time.

I also have this really cute pattern where you can make Elsa and Anna dolls from Frozen out of crochet. Let me know if you want it! I found it on FB.

  2. Sometimes a break is needed - even from reading. Especially when you've got everything else going on! I wouldn't worry too much about catching up - I've given up on ever keeping track of all the books that are coming out haha! The only thing you need to concern yourself with is the release of Sarah J. Maas's new adult book in...February? God I need to preorder it! That's it. That's the only important thing. Unless you read the Abhorsen trilogy (Garth Nix released a new book in the series!) or The Raven Boys. Otherwise I hope blog things/reading things become less of a struggle. And you know what? If you ever want to do posts on needlework and tv shows, I'd totally read it. I'm a terrible knitter, but it doesn't mean I don't like read about it and pretend I'm not hahaha

  3. Welcome back :) I saw on Goodreads that you've decided to set a reading goal for 2015, so that's a good first step in getting back into the reading swing of things! But don't feel bad about spending time on other hobbies. Count me as another one who wouldn't mind seeing your stitching projects on your blog. You're a human being, you don't have to be 100% all about books 100% of the time.

  4. Hey new follower here. Welcome back and sometimes when I don't feel like reading, I watch Netflix and play SIms4 on my computer until like 6:00 am in the morning. And then after that I'm just way too tired to read or do anything but sleep and well, eat. I normally go on a bunch of hiatuses but before I do, I make sure I have dozens of book reviews and discussion posts scheduled to be put up. I think that's a great way to ensure that you don't miss out on posting and that your readers feel satisfied. Awesome post and love ur blog ;)

  5. Thanks for stopping by (and sorry for taking so long to reply. Apparently my hiatus wasn't as over as I'd wanted it to be, lol). I have thought of writing posts about knitting/crochet, and if I'm going to really get back into the swing of things, it wouldn't hurt to write about what I am actually doing. Thanks again for stopping by, hope to talk to you soon!
